Communication is the process of transferring information from one to another, but many types of barriers can arise when information is transferred from one to another. These barriers can be linguistic, emotional, physical, gender, cultural etc. Communication is successful only when the other person understands the information sent by the sender, if the other person is not able to understand, then it means that there is a barrier in communication.

Every living thing has its own characteristics due to which all are different from each other. This difference can be race, culture, language, emotion, age, gender, color, nature etc. Due to this difference, barriers in communication arise, such as employee and employer feeling nervous in talking to each other or boys and girls feeling nervous in talking to each other, etc.

Following are the barriers of communication:

1. Language Barrier:

Barriers arising due to language are called language barriers. Language is the most common barrier in communication because everyone knows only limited languages due to which it becomes difficult to communicate between people knowing two different languages, like a Hindi-speaking person has difficulty in talking to an English-speaking person, Similarly, an English-speaking person has difficulty in talking to a Hindi-speaking person.

2. Cultural Barriers:

Barriers arising due to culture or customs are called cultural or customary barriers. Everyone has their own culture or customs which are different from each other due to which the chances of creating a barrier in communication between people of two cultures or customs increases. These types of barriers are called cultural or customary barriers.

3. Organizational Barriers:

Barriers arising due to organization are called organizational barriers. Various posts, rules, regulations are made in the organization which create barriers in communication such as barriers in communication between subordinate and superior etc. These barriers arise due to organizational hierarchies, rules and regulations, policies, etc.

4. Psychological Barriers:

Barriers arising due to psychology are called psychological barriers. Everyone has different psychological or mental abilities which leads to difficulties in communication, interaction and implementation. Psychological barriers arise due to ego, emotion, attitude, lack of understanding and ability, etc.

5. Geographical Barriers:

Barriers arising due to geography are called geographical barriers. There can be many problems in communication between people living at two different places like the inability to communicate properly due to distance or lack of medium of communication etc. These barriers arise due to varying geography, location, distance, etc.

6. Gender Barriers:

Barriers arising due to gender are called gender barriers. Sometimes men and women get nervous to talk or while talking to each other, due to which proper communication does not take place. These barriers arise due to fear, emotion, attitude etc.
